Question: Can family division be overcome? What is the biblical remedy?

Answer: The answer to your question depends on the reasons for the division. Humility, forgiveness, forbearance, kindness, and love are generally the ingredients of healing and unity. On the other had, sometimes there is division over issues of truth (doctrinal truth, character issues, ethically matters). These can often be overcome only by compromise, which is unacceptable and only results in a false unity. If the solution is forgiveness on your part, then division can be overcome; if it is compromise, probably not.

Both the unwillingness to forgive and the unwillingness to acknowledge the truth are evidences of deception. The Bible gives us this counsel on how to proceed: 'And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will' (2 Timothy 2:24-26).
