Question: My son wants to go back to church, what can I do to help him understand that sin is sin and we will never be perfect here, that we will make mistakes and he will make mistakes, but he is not doomed and going to hell, that he should hold on to God and his relationship with Him no matter what. He is baptized but has a difficult time understanding this and this affects his relationship with God a lot. Please respond, Thank you.

Answer: Your son needs a revelation of the blood. Jesus died for 'our sins.' That is the bottom line. If salvation were based on the perfection of our performance, then Jesus would not have died. But none of us will ever be good enough to deserved eternal life; all we can ever do is look to the mercy of God. As Peter wrote, 'Rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ' (1 Peter 1:13). We recommend that you continue to rehearse the themes you described above with your son.
