Question: I am hearing a new term frequently when listening to sole pastors and their wives refer to receiving all tithes: stipend. As you know, Webster's defines 'stipend' as a fixed sum of money paid periodically for services or to defray expenses. What is the purpose of using this terminology? How could a percentage (that is 10% tithe) equal 'fixed sum'?

Answer: We have no idea why some would use the term 'stipend' to describe tithes. We have never used the term and have never before heard of it being used. We suggest you ask the people who are using it and then report back on this website what you learn. Thanks.
