Question: What are the duties on an armor bearer or cup bearer?

Answer: In ancient times, an armorbearer would carry some of the weaponry for a king or prince (see Judges 9:54). A cupbearer served a king or other high official his drinking cup (see Nehemiah 1:11). He had the unenviable responsibility of insuring that the drink was not laced with poison, which he did by tasting it in the king's presence.
