Question: I think the same thing about funerals and coffins. Isn't that the biggest rip off of all? A dead body gets put inside a big jewlery box and burried in the ground, for what? Forever, or anyway as long as there is no one around to complain about the big jerwlery box and the bones. I guess sometimes people need a place to go to to THINK that's where there loved one is. I could be wrong. What does the Bible say? I never read anything about having to purchase a piece of land and such.

Answer: Genesis 25:8-11 says, 'Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people. 9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, 10 the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, and Sarah his wife.'

To purchase a place to be buried and to be buried in it is a very biblical idea. Even Jesus was buried in a tomb, though only for a few days. The way we can save money and make the whole process easier for our family is to make all the arrangements and pay for them in advance. That's when you have greater bargaining power.
