Question: Who are the sons of God in Genesis 6:4? Are they fallen angels or are they men? Some persons say they are the sons of Seth and the daughters of men are the daughters of Cain. Are these sons of God then different from the sons of God in Job 1 and 2?

Answer: We believe the sons of God are angels. This was virtually the unanimous opinion of the ancient Jewish commentators, such as the 1st century historian Josephus. We would say that the term 'sons of God' in Genesis 6, Job 1, 2, and 33 all refer to angels. Only in the New Testament is the term 'sons of God' used of people, and then it is only applied to those who have been born again.
