Acts 1:3 specifically states that Jesus was both seen and heard by His apostles during this forty day period. This was not Jesus merely as Spirit, since the Holy Spirit cannot be seen; this was the resurrected Messiah, standing before them in His glorified body, which shortly thereafter was taken up into heaven (see Acts 1:11). As we have said, it makes no sense that the Spirit of Jesus would preach to people who had been dead for over 2000 years.
