Question: Is speaking in other tongues really the sign of being baptized by the Holy Spirit? I think I have heard that Jesus breathed on them and they received the Holy Ghost. I have even read that while John the Baptist was still in the womb of Elizabeth, Elizabeth was also filled with the Holy Ghost. Please correct me if I'm wrong with those statements, because I already forgot where to find it. Isn't it that those who have the Holy Spirit will be known by having the fruits of the Spirit? Thank you so much.

Answer: The experience that took place on Pentecost was new (Acts 2). Prior to Pentecost, the Spirit filled prophets and a few others, but on Pentecost the Spirit was poured out on 'all flesh' with the initial sign of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gave utterance. After Pentecost, this was, and continues to be, the universal sign of the Spirit. Once a person has received the Spirit, he should then begin to manifest the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-23. But it takes time for fruit to come forth. It doesn't happen instantly.
