Question: How are the soul and the spirit different?

Answer: The word 'soul' means a breathing creature. It can also refer to the inward part of man when contrasted with the external part. On some occasions it simply means a person.

The word 'spirit' can refer to the Spirit of God, an angelic or demonic spirit, or the human spirit. The spirit of man is the life force that causes man to be alive. It can also refer to the inward part of man when contrasted with the external part. Sometimes in the Bible, these words seem virtually interchangable.
