God does not take away our freedom to make choices when we receive the Holy Spirit. This means that we can continue to make wrong choices if we are not careful. But the wonderful thing about having the Holy Spirit is that now we can choose to obey the Spirit, which will lead us to righteousness and freedom in Jesus Christ. This does not happen automatically when a person receives the Spirit. Each person must learn how to yield to the Spirit.
