Question: Is poverty a spirit and how do I get rid of it. What about swearing and name calling? I try not to do that to my kids everyday and I fail often and often repent and explain myself to them.

Answer: We are not certain what you mean by a spirit. Poverty is a condition. It may be passed along from one generation to the next and there may be some people who feel as though they are hopelessly locked in an impoverished condition. But we would not characterize it as a spirit, because that tends to enable people to make excuses for not working hard and doing their best to escape from poverty.

Concerning your problem with swearing and name calling, we are assuming you have been filled with the Holy Spirit. If this is true, then you need to know that others have had this same battle. James 3:8-10 says, 'But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.' So keep repenting and apologizing to your children. Ask the Lord to help you gain more self-control. Jesus can definitely help you with this problem. If you have not received the Holy Spirit, then you need to immediately.
